The two Skellig islands Skellig Michael and Little Skellig are located approximately 12 kilometres offshore the coast of Kerry. Whilst the smaller of the two islands is home to one of the world’s largest gannet colonies, the larger, Skellig Michael, is famous for its 7th century monk settlement. The site was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1996.
The key plot of the Star Wars movie “The Force Awakens” was filmed on Skellig Michael.

Skellig Michael is located 14 km off the coast of Ireland. Boats from Ballinskelligs Pier, Portmagee and at the Skellig Experience Visitor Centre on Valentia Island get you there.
