The ruins of Carrigafoyle Castle are idyllically situated on the banks of the Shannon estuary. A thick fortification wall surrounds the tower house, which was once on an island (nowadays the surroundings are silted up and a path leads from the parking place to the ruin). Very impressive is the dimension of the fortress, which reveals itself during a visit. One is really surprised how many rooms and corridors are located in the supposedly ordinary tower.
