The county of Sligo is often referred to as Yeats Country – the land of the famous Irish writer William Butler Yeats. Rosses Point, where Yeats used to spend his summer holidays, could therefore appropriately be called the heart of Yeats country. Just like today’s visitors, he will have enjoyed the beautiful promenade, the beach and the view of Ben Bulben. Another landmark, the “Waiting On Shore” memorial, however, did not exist at Yeats’ time.
